This year has started on a good note. I was able to go on a short trip on my own for the first time since Eli was born. It was to a women's conference in a nearby city. I know now that it was not a coincidence that I felt urged to go. All of the speakers said something that I desperately needed to hear. I was able to hang out with old friends who are always a breath of fresh air to me. Of all that I absorbed that weekend, there were two underlying themes. One is that God does not have an expiration date on our calling and mission in life. He will finish the work that He has begun. Even though I have taken a break from my career, He knows how passionate I am about it and how I want to serve Him through it. He will have something waiting when the time comes. The second is that we cannot live in isolation. Being a mother in the States, it is easy to just focus on your kids and construct your world around them, following your own little daily schedule in a sanitized bubble. You can go weeks following that schedule without really connecting with anyone outside your home. Something is missing there. We are not meant to live in isolation. We are meant to touch other peoples lives, living life with other, being on each other's team. It is something innate in us.
I'm believing that this year will be life changing and a year that we will look back in joy for all my family and friends!
Valentine's Day
I love Valentine's Day, not because of the overwhelming commercial reasons, but because it reminds us of God's love for us. The ultimate epic love story of a God that loves us so much that he became one of us, enduring the pain of what that meant. I wish that this year we would display this love to everyone around us, from the strangers at the grocery store to our families. This Valentine's day was so much fun with the boys. They made valentines for their friends and grandparents, had a valentine party at preschool (while mommy and daddy went out for a valentine lunch), and "helped" me make the family valentine dinner.

The boys helped put together these homemade rooibos tea bags for daddy and grandparents.
Eli's valentine for mommy :) That is me on the left, Eli on the right and spider underneath.
Eli and his valentine card collage. Ethan did not want to pose with his.
All we need is love, love is all we need...
